Our Focus for 2021
The events of 2020 challenged us in a number of ways. It exposed weaknesses. It tested our faith, challenged our commitment to Christ and to one another. We faced an immense life’s storm together.
It’s been said that far more people die after a storm than during it. After a major storm people commonly experience disorientation, de- pression, guilt, stuck looking back rather than looking forward, una- ware of remaining dangers. That’s where we stand, after the storm.
Our theme this year is designed to help move forward. Rather than allowing the difficulties of this past year to disrupt our faith, our work, and our goals, we’re going to choose to move forward.
“Let your eyes look directly ahead, and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. Watch the path of your feet and all your ways will be established. Do not turn to the right nor to the left; turn your foot from evil.” Proverbs 4:25-27
Think of the year 2021 as a bridge. Behind us was a year full of trials and hardships. Before us is a new year with new possibilities. We could remain with the thinking and emotions of 2020, or we could choose to move on. To do so we must cross the bridge—we must learn from what we’ve experienced, we must defend against temptations we’ve faced, we must build the things that have been broken, and we must focus on the things that matter the most. The Shepherds would like to encourage each of us to devote this year to moving forward in our faith, in our work, and in our journey towards Heaven, together!
