“Life Is Good”

Years ago, I got a ballcap that had a little logo that stood for “Life is good!” I bought a few others in different colors.  I adopted that as my life’s motto. When the older grandkids were young, I would ask them, “How is life?” They would say, “Life is good, granddad.” I asked Cason when he was little and staying with us, “Cason, how is life?” He said, “Life is good, Drandad.” I asked, “Why is life good?” He said, “Because I am at Nana and Drandad’s house.” He could not yet say, “Granddad.”

I see now how I have missed asking Easton and Macoy that. I need to correct it. I probably have stopped asking the older ones too, even their parents. I need to correct that.

Life is good because of God’s blessings. I count them one by one: Jody; Codie, Kody, Cason, Eli, Riley and Easton; Chris, Kam, Evan, Ty, Brooks and Macoy; My Mom and Dad.

Life is good because of grace and forgiveness. Sin separates us from God. Grace offers us the opportunity to be forgiven and be reconciled with Him.

Life is good because I get to do what I love: Preach. And, I get to be partnered with one of the best young men I know, Jordan Shouse. His heart and his enthusiasm for God, His word and life, are infectious.  Though young in years, he is beyond that in spiritual knowledge and maturity.

Life is good because I have the wonderful opportunity to work with a church Jody and I dearly love. The people are such a great blessing and encouragement.  The generosity, the depth, and spiritual interest are life-giving. I have never had a boring day at any time in my work with this church. It is always interesting. Among the many blessings are our Shepherds. They are men who love God and love His people. They love preachers, too.

Yes, “Life is good!” It will only get better when I can see God face to face. Oh, what a day that will be! Until then, “Life is good!”
