God Will Remember

When former President Ronald Regan died, I was in a gospel meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  I vividly remember the respect paid to him as our President. I was reminded of that today, December 3, 2018, as I watched the events around former President George H.W. Bush. In the eulogies given, and personal comments made about him, there was nothing but praise given to him. Remarks about his kindness, his love of his family, and his devotion to his country were often repeated.

I watched and listened to all the accolades and wondered. First, why does a man have to die before those who have been delegated to represent us decide to finally pay respect to someone? Why are there not men and women who have such love of country that they are willing to work together for the good of the country?  Is party and pride really that valuable?

Second, former President George H.W. Bush died at age 94. Our nation exerted a great deal of pomp and circumstance remembering him. I thought about my dad, who is 92 and a World War II veteran. Will the world know how great a man he is? His love for the Lord is unexcelled. His devotion to his wife is immeasurable. His love for his children is exceptional. Will the world know when he passes away?

Then I thought: no, the world will not know. But, while the world will not know, God will know. God will not forget dad's labor of love (Heb. 6:10). He is a true doorkeeper in the house of God (Psa. 84:10). Better to have a good name with God than a good name with a nation (Prov. 22:1). Better to have fellowship with the God who rules the world.

No, the world will not know. But Almighty God will not only remember my dad, he will remember all His children: you and me.
