The Turn Of The Clock
It happens. Every year it happens. The year turns from one to another. The year of 2019 has come to a close. The year 2020 has been ushered in. Another year has come and gone. I have mixed emotions. I am not sure about looking forward to 2020. On the other hand, I am sure looking forward to the year.
I remember Zig Ziglar said to stop looking at an alarm clock as an alarm clock and look at it as an opportunity clock. Each day brings a new opportunity. So, we can look at the fulfillment of 2019 as a burden that is past and 2020 a year to view with apprehension. Or we can look at 2019 as a year of opportunity past and we can look at 2020 as a year of new opportunities. We get to choose.
I have said, particularly recently, I am ready for 2019 to be over. It has been a year unlike any I can remember in my life. It started off rough and continued that way. The roller coaster never seemed to hit a high peek. It just seemed to always be travelling further down. The illustration may not be an exact parallel, but it does make a point. There was a man who was bragging to his friend about his champion dog. He was telling his friend about all the awards his dog had won. As he was going about how great his dog was, his friend stopped him and asked him, “I want to know just one thing. Does he have fleas?” The friend responded, “Yes, but just enough to remind him he is a dog.” Well, the trials of this year have been just enough to remind us we are not God. Also, that we live in a sin-stained, cursed world. And there is surely something better than this. In other words, the issues of this year have been just enough to remind us we are human with flaws. So, 2019 has been a year of opportunity and 2020 will open new doors of opportunity. As one said, “Opportunity swings on the hinges of adversity.”
A new year. A new clock. A new opportunity. A new opportunity to grow up to be more like Christ. I hope each of you will have a great year. I pray that you will grow close to the Lord and become more like Him. I pray that whatever the year brings you will see it as an opportunity. Who knows? Maybe this will be the year the Lord will come. Hallelujah! As the new year and new opportunities come, take a moment to count your blessings.
